Jib and Mainsail raised
This time out Melanie and I decided to raise the jib sail. It looks so beautiful, and then out of nowhere, we get a gust that’s strong enough to dip the starboard side of the sailboat below the water line. Melanie wasn’t excited to get her arm wet in that manner. Me, I’m high and dry hanging out on the port side. Well, you had to be there.
The winds picked up quite a bit, and I can’t reef the main, so we compromise. We lower the jib and sail on the main. It’s slower, but not so out of control.
An hour or so later the winds have died off and we decide to raise the jib again. This time it’s perfect and the sailboat gains speed nicely.
Time to head back, it’s getting dark. I think I took a picture on this trip, I’ll see if I can post it later.
