Taking the grandson out
It was a nice weekend, gentle breeze and perfect temperatures. Our grandson, he is 7 and loves water. He adored the Jet Ski we had, and so when he wanted to check out the small sailboat of ours we jumped at the chance.
We get things out to Sugar Creek Lake and start out. Of course, as anybody used to sailing, sailboats are not anywhere close in speed to a jet ski, or even a power boat.
His first comment was, this is boring, we’re going to slow. Can you go faster? Well, sure, it can move a little faster, but it’ll mean using some body weight in the process and I explain what will happen.
So, the sailboat starts to heel and he’s like his MiMi, doesn’t like that a great deal on a small boat, He hollers we’re going to tip over… Long story short, we finished our circuit of the lake and he’s quite satisfied with the been there done that t-shirt. I would say that the sailboat never heeled that much, he just didn’t connect what I explained with what happens in real life.
A sailboat such as the Pirateer 13 is just not his cup of tea. He does like my larger sailboat, a Chrysler C22 because it’s bigger and more room to move about and do stuff. I’ll talk about that when I get caught up.
